Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner is one of the formulations of the very popular line of Wen Hair Products.
The Fig Cleansing Conditioner is a shampoo and conditioner replacement that can be used on any type of hair. It is specifically recommended for hair that is dry – specifically if it is damaged, dehydrated and/or color treated, and also ethnic hair and hair that is coarse and/or thick.
My hair is a little longer than shoulder length and I need volume on the top and conditioning on the bottom. I often use the lavender on the top and the fig from the ears down. This combo works great for me and leaves my hair full, shiny and healthy.
I’m sure you already know that figs are good for you – they are loaded with vitamins and minerals. They include vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium, potassium and chlorine. Wen states the fig in their products provides intense moisture without weighing the hair down. I have noted the purpose of the other ingredients in the list below.
Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner Ingredient List:

- Water
- Glycerin – is a humectant – which means it helps to attract and retain moisture.
- Cetyl Alcohol – is a natural fatty emulsifier and thickener – it helps to keep the ingredients mixed together and keeps the texture of the products smooth and creamy. Wen states the cetyl alcohol is a obtained naturally from coconut.
- Rosemary Leaf Extract – has been used for centuries to soothe scalp problems. It is an anti-oxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is believed to stimulate hair growth and to help prevent hair loss, especially with premature baldness. It is very soothing to the scalp.
- Wild Cherry Fruit Extract – also has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
- Fig Extract - provides moisture and hydration.
- Chamomile Extract is well known to calm and soothe the skin. It is believed to have anti-biotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Is especially good at calming down flaky, dry skin.
- Marigold Flower Extract also helps to reduce inflammation and also has healing properties.
- Behentrimonium Methosulfate – although this has sulfate in the name – it is not “a sulfate”. It is a naturally derived hair detangler and hair thickener. It penetrates the hair shaft and does not leave a residue behind. It is considered to be the most gentle available and is used in many baby products.
- Cetearyl Alcohol is a naturally derived emulsifier (keeps things mixed together) and foam booster. It also increases viscosity (makes it thicker). It is used to keep oils and waters mixed together. It is a common ingredient in hair conditioners and leaves an emollient feel behind.
- Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine is derived from vegetable oil and is often used as a more natural alternative to silicones in hair care products. It provides conditioning and anti-static properties and imparts a luminescent, pearl-like appearance. It is also a mild surfactant and detergent to help cleanse the hair.
- Amodimethicone is a polymer is that provides conditioning to the areas most in need of it. How does it do that? By electrostatic attraction. The more damaged the hair, the higher the negative charge density. This attracts this product to the hair cuticle, providing help where it is most needed. Because it has a “low thermal conductivity” it also helps to prevent damage to the hair from heated styling tools. Because it is not water soluble, it stays behind and provides deep conditioning, color retention and shine, but it doesn’t build up.
- Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein is naturally derived and provides moisture-balancing and film-forming properties to give hair more body and a smoother softer feel.
- Polysorbate 60 is an emulsfier used in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It binds oils and waters together.
- Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B-5) – Thanks to Pantene, we all know that this is good for your hair! It acts as a moisturizer that is able to penetrate the hair shaft, making it appear smoother, thicker and more moisturized.
- Menthol is used to reduce itching, irritation and tenderness.
- Sweet Almond Oil is a well known emollient and is used for very dry skin. It provides intense nourishing moisture to the hair without making it oily.
- PEG-60 Almond Glycerides is used to provide a conditioned feel and smooth glide to the hair.
- Methylisothiazolinone is a preservative and anti-bacterial agent used in many hair care products. Recent studies (on rats) have questioned the safety of this item, but the FDA has concluded it is safe for use. As one of the last ingredients, you can safely assume it is used in very small amounts.
- Methylchloroisothiazolinone is also a preservative and anti-bacterial agent.
- Citric Acid is a natural preservative.
- Essential Oils are derived from plants and used to impart fragrance and/or other beneficial properties to cosmetics.
