Maybelline Mascara is among the best selling and most popular brands on the market. Maybelline has four of the top ten best selling mascaras. Great Lash has been the top selling mascara for as long as anyone can remember. Other top ten mascaras by Maybelline include Define-A-Lash, Volume Express and Intense XXL.

Maybelline was founded in 1915 by T.L. Williams. Mr. Williams developed a product for his sister Mabel to darken her eyelashes. The first ever mascara included a coal product and vaseline. He named the company for his sister and used the last part of vaseline - Mabel-line. In 1917 Maybelline reselased Cake Mascara, which was the first mascara, or eye lash darkening product, ever sold commercially. Originally it was only sold by mail order. Maybelline became a household name when its mascara appeared in stores in 1932 with a ten cent price tag. The first "automatic" mascara (applied directly from the tube) was Maybelline's Ultra Lash Mascara. It was introduced in the early 1960s and changed mascara forever. Great Lash, the best selling mascara in the world, was introduced to the market in 1971. Since 1996 Maybelline has opearted as a separate division of L'Oréal USA.
